epaselect epa12282516 A Nepalese Hindu pilgrim, known as Bol Bom, takes a holy dip and collects water from the Bagmati river to worship Shiva, the god of creation and destruction, in Sundarijal village, Nepal, 04 August 2025. Thousands of Bol Bom devotees from across Nepal journeyed barefoot to the northern town of Sundarijal to collect water believed to be holy. The sacred water is carried in two pots balanced on brightly decorated wooden poles, which must not touch the ground until the procession ends. Participants believe the ritual cleanses them of sins and misdeeds committed throughout their lives. EPA/NARENDRA SHRESTHA
