epaselect epa12169800 A view of the green area at the so-called House of the Garden of Hercules—also known as the 'Perfumer’s House'—in the Pompeii Excavations, Naples, Italy, 11 June 2025. A botanical and historical enhancement project has been completed at the site, believed to have been involved in the production and trade of scented essences during Roman times. The garden has been enriched with the planting of 800 ancient roses, 1,200 violets, 1,000 ruscus plants, as well as cherry trees, vines, and quince trees. These species, identified through archaeobotanical research, enabled a philological reconstruction of the garden, offering visitors a sensory glimpse into the ancient world. EPA/CESARE ABBATE
