epaselect epa13150681 The Royal Albert Dock is illuminated by 'Dock Short Lates,' a light projection featuring photographs by Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty, during celebrations marking the dock's 180th anniversary in Liverpool, Britain, 04 August 2026. Designed by dock engineer Jesse Hartley and opened in 1846, the complex was the world’s first non-combustible warehouse system and was granted Grade I listed status in 1952. The dock closed in 1972, was later abandoned and officially reopened following redevelopment on 04 August 1984, before receiving its royal title in 2018. The complex now contains shops, restaurants, hotels and attractions including The Beatles Story, while Tate Liverpool, the Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum are closed for redevelopment.
