Lisbon, Jan. 5, Lusa – The Prime Minister, António Costa, on Tuesday receives the President of the European Council for a working meeting, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs will also participate, in a programme which also includes a visit to the Jerónimos Monastery.

The programme of Charles Michel's visit includes a working meeting with the Prime Minister, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, and the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Ana Paula Zacarias, will take part. The meeting will take place from 3:30 pm, at the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon.

A brief visit to the Jerónimos Monastery, where the Treaty of Accession of Portugal to the European Economic Community (now the EU) was signed in 1985, is also planned.

The visit of the President of the European Council is the first official meeting of the Portuguese EU Council presidency.

Also today, at 18:30, the Grand Auditorium of the Centro Cultural de Belém will be the stage for the inaugural show of the Portuguese presidency, with a concert by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Joana Carneiro.

The show will also have the participation of the artists Ana Moura, Carminho, Camané, Sara Correia and the guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa, curated by the Fado Museum and artistic direction by Elisabete Matos.

Fado singer Carlos do Carmo, who died last Friday at the age of 81, will be honoured during the concert after the government decreed a day of national mourning for his death.

Portugal took over its fourth EU Council presidency on 1 January, which will run for the first half of 2021, succeeding Germany and preceding Slovenia, under the slogan "Time to act: for a just, green and digital recovery".
